Prosperity Gospel

Saw this over at Brian’s blog. John Piper speaks bluntly about the prosperity gospel that some preach and it’s effects in other nations. I’ve heard how the prosperity gospel has infected some African countries from a friend. It’s a shame that some preachers have twisted God’s Word to justify their extravagance…

no, John Piper didn’t invent the term, he just makes some great points about it. I’ve heard the term “prosperity gospel” for years and years. Not sure where it came from – wikipedia gives this info on it:

I don’t know if you’ve ever read the “gospel of wealth.” It was an essay written by Andrew Carnegie in 1889. What he wrote about was the obligation of philanthropy for those who had aquired wealth. As a result of this believe, he set up public libraries in almost every city in America.

I’m not making any real point here but I just though you might find the essay interesting. I don’t think the person in the video ever read it and thinks he invented the term. (a little plagerism can go a long way.)
